tissue work and nourishes the skin at the same time. The high organic
plant content helps support healthy skin while creating a perfect
balance between friction, glide and absorption. Shea butter is solid and is produced from the natural fat of the
kernel of the Karite tree; a large tree native to West and Central
Africa. The dried fruit consists of a thin shell, enclosing an egg
shaped kernel. The kernels are about 3 grams in weight and contain
about 50 percent fat. The kernel is cold pressed to extract the Shea
Butter which is used locally and exported to Europe as well.
The Karite tree which produces the shea kernel is taxonomically classified
as an evergreen. Despite this the FDA has recently ruled that the Shea
kernel is a nut, so we not longer claim that our products do not
contain nut oil.
Also referred to as Karite butter, Shea butter is an
emollient that is extremely therapeutic, helping to heal cracked, aged
and damaged skin. It contains vitamin A and E and is highly compatible
with skin. Shea butter is high in unsaponifiables (a large group of
compounds called plant steroids or sterolins which soften the skin and
have superior moisturizing effect on the upper layer of the skin) in
addition to cinnamic esters, which have antimicrobial and moisturizing
properties and provide protection from the UV rays of the sun. |
